Here's a recap of the week. I'm heading into week 16 and feeling strong!💪 In this short video, I go over a few things, one being my Dexa scan on Thursday. I want to actually go into a little further detail in regards to that. The Dexa scan is the gold standard for measuring bone density and body composition. It provides data on how much muscle and fat mass you carry throughout your body, measuring each limb from right to left. The cool thing is that it shows how symmetrical you are as well as imbalances. I plan to do another one toward the end of May right before the show (so about 4 months out). It's the most accurate tool in measuring progress in regard to my program and nutrition. A word of advice to my younger self: just because you workout and eat right doesn't automatically prop you up on a pedestal above others. Yes, it takes discipline and dedication, but so do many other things. You just choose to focus on this one area of life. There are many other areas that you are, let's be honest, pretty dang mediocre at where others are phenomenal. Why? Because that's where they choose to put their focus. With age comes humility (typically), thank God, because I don't care how attractive, fit, and glorious you think you are. When you're full of pride, that's all anyone will ever notice about you, and it's not very pretty.Button

Being a personal trainer in the Sun Valley area with an emphasis on bodybuilding, as I'm now realizing, isn't ideal. Since bodybuilding isn't the most advantageous financially unless, of course, you're an Olympian, or you live in Florida, I'm deciding to shift my training to a focus on endurance. Coaching and knowledge is only half of the equation as a personal trainer. Personal experience and setting an example is the other half, and I would argue more important. This was at the height of my 2 year bulk. I was at about 17% body fat in these photos. When I leaned out at 10% bodyfat, I was 165 lbs. 2 years previously at 10%, I weighed in at 150. I used quite a few supplements, specifically herbs, i.e. tribulas, maca, horney goat weed, DHEA, and creatine in order to naturally boost my testosterone, strength, and performance (no steroids or growth hormones). I also maintained a good-sized caloric surplus throughout that entire bulk 3,000-3,500 with a high protein content in whole foods (180-200 grams). My training was extremely intense (most sets to failure), high volume (30 sets per bodypart weekly), and sometimes twice daily, no cardio. I already had 18 years' worth of consistent bodybuilding, struggling to gain size throughout that time. But I finally had it and decided to go all in, pushing my body and mind to its limits to see what I was capable of. This is just a guideline of what I did to achieve results. It may or may not work for you because everyone is different. But the point is to believe in your potential, never put limits on what you can accomplish. The evolution of my bikini journey: 6 months between the first and second competition, 7 between the second and last. I placed 2nd in the first competition, 4th in the other two. I was so confused back in the day on the most effective way to build muscle. But through 25 years of trial and error, as well as research, I found a simple formula that worked for me. People always talk about diet, supplements, and training when it comes to seeing results and taking your physique to that next level. But what I learned is the MOST important factor, at least for me, is mindset! In 1954, Roger Bannister broke a record and ran the 4 minute mile. Everyone, including doctors at the time, said this was impossible for the human body to bear. Bannister didn't listen to any of those limiting beliefs. He had a mindset that was unstoppable. (It sounds cheesy, but hang with me) When I heard about this story years back, I knew that anyone could cultivate this mindset, including myself. I decided to put it to use to drive my progress forward. There are 4 years between all 3 photos, and I gained 10 lbs. of lean bodymass without the use of PEDs or growth hormones. I already had over a decade of consistent bodybuilding before that first photo. In that decade, I made very slow progress year after year in terms of growth. But this mindset seriously changed the game for me. It's like the shackles came off. Where in your life do you have limiting beliefs? Can you imagine your life in 1 or 5 years if you had an unstoppable mindset? Anything is possible. The last time I seriously focused on competing was back then in 2018. My son wants me to try again. I was so beyond proud of myself for achieving a physique in that off-season that I never thought was possible. However, since I am a natural competitor, the amount of dedication that is required for the figure physique is no longer conducive for my life at this stage. The wellness division is appealing, but very much the opposite of my natural shape and structure, which leaves me with bikini being the only viable option.Regardless of which division I choose, I just know that I will love the challenge and journey of getting there. I encourage everyone who makes working out a part of their lifestyle to set a goal, whether that be running a marathon or competing in bodybuilding. Make sure it's something that excites you and is truly what you want.Button
